Hey guys, it’s Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy Nummies! Today we are going to be making something that we have never made before, this is gonna be a first We are gonna be making a cake that is going to be in an app game

And not just any app game! It’s gonna be in a game I have been playing for about 3 years It was about 2 years ago I uploaded my very first what’s on my iPhone video, and one of the games that I was playing was Dragonvale! I love this game, it is adorable, for those of you who aren’t familiar with it, it’s like a Dragon collection game You have a little wizard park, and there’s different little habitats where you collect your dragons, breed dragons, and wizards pay a little money to see them I’ve gone a little crazy with it, I’ve gotten almost every dragon you can collect, and one of the reasons I really like this game is because they're always coming out with really cute, new dragons They start off as little baby dragons, and as you feed them treats, they grow up and evolve, and they’re adorable! Sometimes they do holiday events, like the one right over here

These are some that I got for easter! And one of their newest is the legendary dragon Gaia, she’s right here, and she helps you hatch your eggs instantly It’s really cool, I think you can do this about every 3 days If you click on her you’ll see these are all the eggs that are in incubation, so instead of waiting, you can pick one of them to hatch… (snaps) Like that! Today we are gonna be making a treat that you will be able to find in the game, let me show you! I’m gonna click on one of these little treat farms There’s lots of different little veggies and fruits that are all made up They have some cute ones, they have Dragon Snaps, Dragon Root, Pumpermelons which are like pumpkin melons, Dragonfruit, so today, we are going to design and make a Dragonvale treat that is going to be in the game! It’s going to be in the actual game you guys, this is so exciting! Alright, let’s get started! The things you will need, will be: 3 cups of all purpose flour, 1-1/4 cup sugar, 1-1/4 cup of whole milk, 4 eggs, 2 sticks of butter at room temperature, some crispy cereal treats, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 a teaspoon of salt, 1/2 a teaspoon of almond extract, and, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

You will also need 1 dragonfruit, and, it looks so cool, I found it at the local market, it kind of looks like a dragon egg, I’ve never made something with dragonfruit before, this is a first! Now let’s put it all together! The first thing that we’re gonna do is puree our dragonfruit I was just gonna place my dragonfruit on top of a cutting mat, cut straight down Oh you guys, this is so cool! This is so pretty! Take a little spoon, scoop out the meat, and place it in the blender! Since I know there’s plenty, I’m just gonna have a little bite for me! It kind of reminds me, if a Kiwi met a pear, and had a baby! A Kiwi-Pear! And, we’re gonna mix it up in our blender! Now we’re gonna take our dragonfruit puree and we’re gonna measure out a cup and 1/4 of it Then we’re gonna add our milk, to our dragonfruit puree Next we are gonna sift together our flour, salt, and baking powder into a big bowl

I’m gonna start with my flour I make it rain! I make it rain! I make it rain! Now our salt, and our baking powder, shake-shake-shake! Time to cream together our butter and sugar into this big mixing bowl We’re gonna pour in all of our sugar, and our butter, remember, you’ll want it to be at room temperature Then we’re gonna take our mixer and mix together until it’s light and fluffy! And now we’re gonna add some of our wet ingredients to this smaller bowl, and mix ‘em together before we add them to the butter mixture We’re gonna be adding all of our eggs into here, then add your extracts, we’re gonna add the vanilla, and almond

Using a spatula, I’m just gonna gently mix together Then we are going to slowly add our wet mixture to our butter mixture, while mixing! Now we have all of our mixtures! We’ve got our dry mixture, our wet butter mixture, and our dragonfruit milk mixture We’re gonna alternate adding our flour and dragonfruit milk to our butter, starting and ending with flour Our batter is ready, over here I have lined and greased 3-8 inch round cake pans, with a little piece of parchment paper at the bottom And, I’m just gonna eyeball it, and pour our batter into these 3 pans! Once you’ve poured your batter into all of your pans you’re just gonna give them a little shake

Shake-shake-shake! Shake-shake-shake! Shake-shake-shake! Now we’re gonna pop them in the oven at 350 degrees and bake them for about 30-40 minutes Once your cakes have baked and had plenty of time to cool I just leveled them off with a cake leveler, so they’re all about the same height Over here I’ve got a little turntable, and a cake stand on the top So, I’m gonna take a little bit of frosting, I’ve got some buttercream, and, I’ve dyed it orange

I put it into a plastic baggie and I cut off the tip I’m just gonna put a little bit, boop! Then you’re gonna take your first cake layer, transfer it over to your cake stand, and now frost in-between each layer Take a spatula, smooth it out! Is that flat? Yeah, that’s pretty good! Now goes our second layer, we’re gonna put a little frosting in-between, and smooth it out Then add our final layer Our cake is assembled and now we are gonna frost the cake with a crumb-coat layer

It’s just a very thin layer where crumbs are showing, that’s OK, because, we are gonna decorate soon after! This is the first time on Nerdy Nummies that we have ever made an ombre cake And we’re doing this because in the game Dragonvale, the dragonfruits in that game are an ombre color An ombre is a gradient of different colors and over here we are gonna be using pink, orange, and yellow! This is just buttercream frosting that we’ve put into a plastic baggie and I’ve just cut off the end, I don’t have a tip We’re gonna start at the bottom of our cake, and we’re just gonna pipe a layer at the very bottom After you’ve got the pink frosting all the way around the bottom of the cake, we’re gonna take a spatula and flatten it out

Take your next color, I’m gonna be using orange, and I’m just gonna be applying it right on top of the pink and all the way up to the top of the cake Now we’re gonna smooth it out, take your spatula and just go back and forth! Last frosting, is our yellow buttercream frosting, I’m gonna apply a thin layer on the top We’ve got our 3 layers frosted, now I’m gonna take an icing smoother, and hold it parallel to the cake and go all the way around! Last step for frosting is we’re gonna smooth out the top You just take a little spatula, and put it on the outside and then you're just gonna pull in Wipe off the excess frosting and work your way all the way around the top

Our cake is frosted! And now it’s time for my favorite part! It’s time to decorate! Over here I have rolled out some green fondant and we are gonna be making a whole bunch of leaves! We have 2 football cookie cutters, one is a 4-1/2 inch and one is a 4 inch We’re just gonna cut out a bunch of leaves We also have a small teardrop cookie cutter, we’re gonna need to cut out 8 of these With our big leaves, I’m gonna take a sharp cutting knife and I’m just gonna cut these in half I made a bunch of leaves, and now I’m just using this little fondant tool, to make some veins

Just apply a little bit of pressure, and make some marks on the side Time to assemble our cake, we are going to add all of our decoration details, we’re gonna add 2 medium leaves first, at the bottom Then space them out, just a little bit You’re gonna go all the way around the cake Then you’re gonna take your larger leaf, and you’re gonna place it in the middle! We’ve got our leaves all the way around the bottom of our cake

And over here I’ve got buttercream frosting, which I’ve dyed a light green with a number 12 tip at the top, and I’m gonna make little dots all the way around the cake on top of the leaves to create a nice border Now we’re gonna decorate by making a top border I’ve got the same light green frosting in this baggie, but, with a 2A tip And we’re gonna be making dots, right on the top Now we’re gonna take our small leaves and we’re gonna place them evenly around the top of the cake

Once your frosting starts to set a little bit, you can take your finger, and just boop-boop-boop! Tap down the peaks of the frosting! Our cake is coming together, now we are gonna make a cake topper! We are gonna take our crispy cereal treats, and we are gonna mold them into kind of like a mango shape, to look like the dragon fruit from the game So, just using your hands, I’m just gonna roll it After you’ve shaped your rice krispies, now I’m gonna roll it in a little bit of fondant You’re just gonna cover the whole thing This isn’t very glamorous, I just give it a twist, remove the excess fondant and then you’re just gonna keep molding it, into kind of a mango shape

Then we’re gonna add a second layer of fondant so that you won’t see all the lumps from the crispy treat Time for a little edible arts and crafts! We’ve got our little crispy mango over here, and then here in my plastic palate, I’ve got red, pink, orange, and a little bit of yellow food coloring dye Over here I’ve got a little bit of orange extract, you want something with alcohol in it, to have it stick to the fondant So I’m gonna start with red, just take a little dabble, boop-boop! And I’m gonna start at the bottom, and we’re just gonna fade it up Start with red, move to pink, then orange, then yellow! And give our little dragonfruit an ombre look! Final step, I’ve got a little bit of yellow buttercream frosting, I’m just gonna put a little bit right here, boop, boop, boop! Then, we’re gonna take, our little dragonfruit, I’m gonna place him right in the middle

For an extra detail, just for fun, I made a baby fire dragon out of fondant Oooh! Look at him! This is one of the first dragons that you get when you’re playing the game, there’s the fire dragon, the earth dragon, the water dragon This is what he looks like when he’s a baby, I’m gonna stick him right here on the front of the cake, just hanging out, because he’s so cute! This is what he looks like when he grows up in the game I named mine Hot Pocket Eh-herm-herm-herm-herm-herm! Ta-da! Here is the Dragonfruit Cake that we made today!
