Ro: Hey guys, it's Ro, welcome to another Nerdy Nummies! Today I have a very special guest, it's Joey! Joey: Yay! I'm back! Ro: I am so excited you're here! He is the perfect guest for today because I've got a lot of requests to make something from Ready Player One Joey: I'm freaking out

This is honestly one of my favorite books that I've ever read so thank you for choosing me Ro: For those who don't know anything about the novel or the you know, the movie it's a sci-fi story, it's a dystopian future

So Joey knows all about that, you're an expert Joey: Yes And I love video games, I love VR Ro: And I don't want to give out too many spoilers, but we're living in this world that's very over populated there's an energy crisis and living standards aren't very good, and everyone is playing this game called "Oasis" Joey: Yeah to like basically escape the harsh reality of what the future has become

Ro: And the creator of the game is a billionaire, very successful and he has said that he has hidden 3 keys and if you can find the 3 keys, you inherit his wealth and game so everybody is playing this game trying to find the 3 keys Ro: Today we are going to make cookies that look like the 3 keys

So there is going to be one that's copper, one that's green for jade and one that's decorated white to look like the crystal key Joey: Ugh! The crystal key! Ro and Joey: Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers! Stop! Don't watch! Stop! Ro: Skip ahead like 30 seconds So the second key, the green key, is found in a box – a cereal box of Joey: Cap'n Crunch Ro: Yep So today in honor of that we are going to be making sugar cookies, but they're Cap'n Crunch sugar cookies to look like the three keys Ro and Joey: Let's get started! Ro: The things you will need will be: 1/2 cups of all purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of corn meal, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, some Cap'n Crunch cereal – you will need enough for 6 tablespoons ground Joey: 1/2 teaspoon butter extract, 1 egg, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla extract

Ro and Joey: Now let's put it all together! Ro: First step to bake these cookies is grinding up our Cap'n Crunch cereal Joey, have you used a food processor before? Joey: I have not, but I've used a blender Ro: Very similar Joey: iJustine has taught me – when in doubt, just blend it Ro: It's a good rule of thumb and I couldn't knock her methods because it actually worked

We made a cake together Joey: Oh really? Ro: And we mixed it together in a blender instead of like a stand mixed and it tasted delicious so Ro: Alright, pour it in, all in

Joey: Oh no! Ro: Maybe just one Joey: Our fallen solidiers oh, okay! Ro: Now we just pulse, so Joey I'mma have you pulse it You just go boom, boom, boom, boom Like that, go! Joey: *squeals* Ro: *laughs* Very powerful! I'll hold it in place Joey: That's frightening! Ro: Joey, we've done it, that's it

Nice work Joey: Thank you, thank you Ro: Joey, I might have you the sharp part so don't be careful Just put that over there or something Ro: And then we've got to measure out 6 of these, and these are tablespoon measurements That's what we want Now

oh my gosh This is like the bottom of the box, in a cereal box Joey: Yes! The best part

Joey: When it sprinkles into the milk and you're just like "oh yes!" Joey: Alrighty, so our Cap'n Crunch is all blended up and now it's time to mix it up with a whisk with our other dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl Ro: Yeah, there you go Joey, just pour it all in The flour, some salt, baking powder – boop boop boop – last but not least, a little cornmeal Ro: Mix it up until everything is well combined and set it off to the side Ro: Now we cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl

So I'm going to pour in the sugar, the butter Using an electric hand mixer, mix together until light and fluffy This usually takes a couple minutes Joey: Has your hair every got caught in there? Joey: Flashback Ro: When

yes To just the other week, true story, I basically blew out the engine It like started smoking, full smoke I was making a meringue

Joey: Too much baking Ro: Yeah It was too much baking Joey: So now we are going to add the butter extract and vanilla extract Ro: And our egg

You want to add the whole egg and then once again mix together until well combined Joey, can you hold the bowl? Joey: You got it Ro: 'Cause this one doesn't have a grippy at the bottom So sometimes it likes to slide all over Ro: *making engine-like noises* Joey: So we have our wet ingredients and our dry ingredients

Ro: Eyeball it, just shake in half of the dry ingredients, then we'll mix it up and add the other half Ro: Here we go, here we go Ro: *making engine-like noises again* Ro: I like to do the sound effects Ro and Joey: The other half Ro: Shake, shake, shake

Joey Imma have you mix now Joey: I get to do the honors Ro: Yeah! And I'll scrape down the sides Ro: Go for it Yeah, spin it in circles, you got this

Joey: Wow, we've got- we've got a problem Ro: Okay so you have to hover it in the bowl and put it on a speed and it'll flick out Joey: I think you're supposed to eat the stuff that's still on here Ro: Okay, push the top button Joey: No, I'm just kidding! Ro: I'll hold on! Ro: Trust me! Ro: Oh what! Joey: Wow! Joey: A treat! We get to eat everything! Ro: And a little treat for each of us

Ro: We're going to wrap it up tight using some food safe plastic wrap Imma have you do it, I have faith, you can do this Joey: Okay Ro: Okay, use you hands, just ball it together Ro: Yeah, yeah, yeah! Joey: Wooo!! Ro: Nice, yeah! Ro: Then right in the middle

Push it flat, to look like a pancake, like a little disc Then I'm going to go bloop, then hit me back, come this way Joey: It's like wrapping a present Ro: Yeah! Now pop it in the fridge for one hour to chill Joey: Alrighty, so it's been a full hour, our dough is chilled and now we have to roll it out

Ro: That's right, we have to open this up and Joey, I'm going to let you do some baking flair Ro: So you just grab a hold and pull it up and it's going to flip in the air and the goal is to land it on the counter Don't think about it Joey: Okay, ready? Ro: And just go for it Joey: One

Ro: You got this Joey! Joey: Two Ro: Moral support! Joey: Three! Ro: Yes! We'll take it! Ro: It landed on the counter! Joey: It didn't land on the floor so that's a- a plus Ro: Alright so now we roll it out Put down a piece of parchment paper so it won't stick Just roll it about a 1/4 inch thick Joey: Okay, is this good? Ro: Yeah, that looks great

We go there Joey: Perfect Ro: Now it's time to cut out our cookies I found this cute little key cookie cutter online I'll put a link down below if you're interested in using this one

But they have a bunch of 'em online Just cut out a bunch Ro: And then we'll place them over here on a baking sheet lined with a piece of parchment paper This cookie recipe does expand when it bakes so give them about an inch and half, maybe even 2 inches inbetween each cookie 'cause it – fwoomp – it fluffs out Joey: Let's just cook one at a time

Ro: Yeah I like that One we get to hang out more, two we'd watch movies or something

Ro: *whispers* What about sci-fi movies? Joey: Our cookies are on the cookie sheet now let's pop it in the freezer for ten minutes Ro: Yes we do this so they'll hold the shape while they bake And heat your oven to 350 degrees then bake for ten minutes Joey: Alrighty, so the cookies are all done and baked and we gave them some time to cool Ro: Yeah! Joey: So we can decorate them now Ro: It's super easy

We are going to be frosting them 3 different colors The colors of the keys in the game Or as close to them as we can Ro: So the first thing is to outline the cookie We pipe an outline all the way around to make your design

And then we let it sit for about ten minutes to dry Ro: Have you ever iced a cookie before? Joey: Never have I ever I have actually done gingerbread cookies Joey: But nothing like this Joey: So our outlines are looking pretty good, huh? Ro: Oh yeah! Look at these Joey: Can we fill them in now? Ro: Yeah

They've dried, they've set Now just fill them in This is called "flooding" So you just fill them in Just fill in all of your cookies with matching colors

Joey: Okay, so they're all filled in Ro: Yes! Joey: This is actually a lot of fun Joey: I want to do more Ro: It's really relaxing Okay, you've got to come bake again

Joey: Okay, fine Ro: There is one more step, it's totally optional These cookies are ready to serve right now and they look like the keys from the game But I wanted to add a little bit of extra something Just a little bit of shimmer

Ro: So, here, do you want to do the crystal one? Joey: Yes! I do Ro: So just take a little paintbrush and just lightly put them on top so they shimmer like the metals Joey: Wow! This is so cool Ro: Isn't this neat? I love it It just gives it a little extra oomph

Ro and Joey: Ta-da!! Ro: Here are the Cap'n Crunch cookies that we made today in celebration of Ready Player One And a big thank you to Joey Joey thank you for helping me bake today Joey: Thank you This is honestly everything
